How the Capital on Tap card works
Capital on Tap gives your company a credit limit, and this part of our Capital on Tap review covers how it works day to day. You spend on the card, and each statement shows what you owe and when it's due. You can repay in full, pay the minimum, pay a fixed amount or repay the full balance weekly. Payments are collected by Direct Debit, and you can make extra payments by bank transfer or debit card.
If you clear the balance in full and on time, Capital on Tap says you won't pay interest on card purchases. If you don't clear it, interest is charged at the rate in your agreement. Transfers from the card to a bank account and cash withdrawals are treated differently, and Capital on Tap's FAQ says drawdowns to a bank account accrue interest daily until repaid.
That's the key point of this Capital on Tap review: the card is good value for businesses that use it as a 30-day float and repay in full. It's a costlier way to borrow if you carry a balance. Our business credit card guide explains the general mechanics in more depth.
Capital on Tap review: plans and fees
Capital on Tap has two plans, and most readers of this Capital on Tap review will only need the first. Both are the same credit card with the same credit limit rules; the difference is the rewards rate on some spending and the extra perks.
| Standard (Free) | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Annual fee | None | Yes: see Capital on Tap's Pro page |
| Cashback on card spend | 1% | 1%, or 1.25% on preloaded spend |
| Avios and Virgin Points | 10 points = 8 Avios or Virgin Points | 1 point = 1 Avios or Virgin Point |
| Airport lounges | Not included | Priority Pass access to 1,900+ lounges for the main cardholder, plus 2 guest passes a year |
| Other extras | Partner offers | Metal card, Radisson Rewards VIP status, Times digital subscription, Go Privilege Silver |
| Employee cards | Unlimited, free | Unlimited, free |
| FX fees | None | None |
Capital on Tap's homepage says there are no annual, FX or ATM fees on the standard plan. Your agreement will set out other charges, such as late payment fees, and the interest rate on any balance you carry. Read it before you sign, and check Capital on Tap's site for current rates and the Pro fee.
Which plan? For most small companies in this Capital on Tap review, the standard plan does the job. Pro is aimed at businesses that travel and spend enough for the lounge access and better Avios conversion to outweigh the annual fee. Work it out with your own figures before upgrading.

Capital on Tap review: rewards and cashback
Rewards are a big part of why people read a Capital on Tap review in the first place. Under its rewards terms (updated 8 June 2026), you earn one point for every £1 of card purchases, rounded down for each transaction. On the cashback option, 100 points are worth £1, which is why the card is described as 1% cashback.
You can redeem points as:
- cashback to a bank account in your business or personal name, from £10
- a credit against your card balance
- gift cards from retail partners
- Avios (with a British Airways Club or Qatar Airways Privilege Club membership) or Virgin Points
- Radisson Rewards or Go Coins
Some things don't earn points: cash withdrawals, Capital on Tap's own fees, and any transactions while your account is in arrears. Points on refunded purchases are taken back. You can also lose points if you miss a monthly payment, if your account is closed, or if you don't earn or redeem any for 24 months.
The points don't have a cap, which suits companies that put most of their spending through one card. A business spending £5,000 a month on the card would earn 5,000 points, or £50 in cashback, each month. In our Capital on Tap review, that's a fair return on spending you'd make anyway, as long as you clear the balance.
New customers can add 7,500 bonus points, worth £75, with our Capital on Tap promo code.

Capital on Tap review: eligibility
Before reading the rest of this Capital on Tap review, check you can apply. Capital on Tap's help centre sets out who can get the card:
- The business is a private limited company (Ltd) or limited liability partnership (LLP)
- Turnover is at least £24,000 a year
- You're an active director or own at least 25% of the company
- You and the business are based in the UK
- No unsatisfied CCJs against you or the business in the last 12 months
- The business isn't in a high-risk industry
Its FAQ also mentions PLCs and says charities and non-profits aren't accepted. Sole traders aren't listed. That's the biggest limit in this Capital on Tap review: if you work for yourself without a company, you'll need to look elsewhere. Our guide to sole trader or limited company explains the difference.
Capital on Tap review: the personal guarantee
Capital on Tap asks the main account holder to give a personal guarantee. Its help centre says that if the business can't pay its debts, you'll be required to pay them, and that you stay responsible even if the business closes or you stop being a director.
Personal guarantees are common on small business credit cards, but in this Capital on Tap review we think it's the term to read most carefully. Think about the worst case, which is the full credit limit, and whether you could cover it personally. If you're not sure what you're signing, ask an accountant or solicitor first.
Is Capital on Tap safe?
Capital on Tap is the trading name of New Wave Capital Ltd, a UK company. It's authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority for consumer credit activities, and separately authorised under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 to issue e-money. You can check both on the FCA register.
For this Capital on Tap review, the key point is that Capital on Tap is not a bank, but with a credit card that matters less than it would with a current account: you're spending Capital on Tap's money, not holding your own. If you preload your own funds or open the separate Instant Savings account, check how that money is protected. Capital on Tap says the savings account is held with ClearBank, a UK bank. Our guide to bank vs e-money accounts explains how protection works.
The card is also covered by Visa's Zero Liability Policy for unauthorised transactions, with exceptions listed by Visa, and disputes are handled by Capital on Tap's support team.
Capital on Tap reviews from customers
On 25 October 2026, Capital on Tap's Trustpilot page showed a score of 4.6 out of 5 from 18,542 reviews, with 89% rating it 5 stars and 5% rating it 1 star. Positive reviews most often mention a quick application, an easy-to-use app and virtual cards, helpful customer service and the rewards.
Negative reviews most often mention cards or accounts being blocked without a clear explanation, disputed transactions being rejected, slow help when a payment goes wrong, declined applications without a reason, and marketing letters. Those complaints are worth weighing in any Capital on Tap review if your business would struggle without the card for a few days. Keeping a second payment method is sensible with any card.

Capital on Tap review: repaying the card
Repayment is flexible, which is one of the strengths in this Capital on Tap review. You choose how to repay: the full balance, the minimum, a fixed amount, or the full balance weekly. Payments are taken by Direct Debit on your statement due date or weekly. You can make extra payments by bank transfer, or by debit card up to £5,000. The due date can't be changed, but switching to weekly repayments can line repayments up with your cash flow.
If you can't make a payment, Capital on Tap's FAQ says to contact it as soon as possible. Late payment fees may apply under your agreement, and a missed payment can cost you your points. Going over your limit doesn't incur a fee, but further card payments are declined until you're back under it.
