Is Revolut Business safe?

Revolut launched as a UK bank in March 2026. Under its current Business Terms, your Revolut Business account is with Revolut Bank UK Ltd, a bank authorised by the PRA and regulated by the FCA and the PRA (FRN 981170). Eligible deposits with Revolut Bank UK Ltd are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to £120,000, across all your eligible deposits with the bank.

Older accounts are moving across. Revolut says an existing Revolut Business account will automatically transition from an e-money account with Revolut Ltd to a business current account with Revolut Bank UK Ltd, keeping the same account details, features and fees. Revolut doesn't give a date. Until your account moves, your money is safeguarded by Revolut Ltd under the e-money rules, not covered by the FSCS. Once it moves, safeguarding no longer applies and FSCS cover does. Check in the app which applies to your Revolut Business account. An older Revolut help page saying a Revolut Business account isn't FSCS-covered describes the e-money position before the move.

A few details matter:

  • Limited companies and LLPs: eligible deposits up to £120,000 held with Revolut Bank are protected.
  • Some businesses are excluded from FSCS cover, including banks, other financial institutions, investment firms, insurers, pension funds and most public authorities.
  • Business Savings are separate. That money is held by a third-party deposit account provider, with Flagstone as trustee. It may be FSCS-protected depending on the provider, so check which one holds your savings.

Cash and international payments

A Revolut Business account doesn't take cash. Revolut's help pages say: "We don't accept cash or cheque deposits." If your business takes cash, you'll need a second account to pay it in. Getting cash out costs 2% per ATM withdrawal on every plan.

International work is where a Revolut Business account earns its fee. Each plan includes a monthly allowance for exchanging at the interbank rate during market hours: £1,000 on Basic, £15,000 on Grow and £60,000 on Scale. Above that, Revolut adds a 0.6% markup, and exchanges outside market hours cost 1%. International transfers beyond your allowance cost £5, and a guaranteed SWIFT (OUR) payment, where you cover the charges, costs £20.

Here's a worked example for this Revolut Business review, using those published fees: if you exchange £10,000 a month, Basic would charge a 0.6% markup on £9,000, or £54, in addition to the £10 plan fee. Grow, at £35 a month, would include all of it. That's a worked example, not advice, so run your own numbers.

Who Revolut Business suits

Check with Revolut first. Its pages differ on sole traders, and some point them to Revolut Pro instead.

Opening an account with Revolut

Sole traders: Revolut's Business Terms list new sole traders as eligible, but its help pages say freelancers and sole traders aren't supported for a Revolut Business account and point unregistered sole traders to Revolut Pro. Check with Revolut which product it will offer you before you apply.
